The library specialises in the history of the social and political movements of the 20th century and focuses on the Greek and international history of Socialism, Communism and leftwing movement, in general. Therefore, the library of ASKI is a fundamental documentation centre and a permanent reference point for all those interested in relevant issues.
The Library’s first collections were part of the large archival unities of ASKI. They were books, newspapers and journals that were used by the History Department of the KKE/CPG and were part of the library that the Central Committee had established in Bucharest. This library, together with the library of the Marxist Studies’ Centre which is also kept at ASKI, is estimated to approximately 11,000 titles. Today, ASKI’s Library consists of more than 35,000 titles and is, continuously, expanding thanks to personal donations.
The Library contains:
- Books
- Newspapers and journals [underground press (1936-1974), daily newspapers, union’s or literature journals, etc.].
- Brochures (1910-2010)
- Tracts and leaflets (1936-2010)
Moreover, a project to create a digital library with rare, inaccessible or damaged books, is in progress.
